I gain a sister, only to lose her to Roanoke College... 5 hours away. This weekend we made a mini road trip up to Virginia, helped Janie unload, and wished her farewell. As sad as I am to lose our breakfast dates, I know she is going to flourish at Roanoke. From the moment we arrived, her demeanor was peaceful and her smile energetic. The school fits her. She fits the school. And I couldn't be more excited for her. Here's to Janie--our new Maroon.
Saturday started off with two hard boiled eggs and disappointing coffee at our hotel. From there we proceeded to campus where more free coffee was being served! But once again...disappointing. By the time we unloaded all Janie's goods, I was starving and ready for good coffee. We headed off to Mac & Bob's, a local restaurant, and I had the most amazing ahi-tuna salad. I thought it was going to be a greasy burger joint, so finding this salad on the menu was a pleasant surprise! And from there, we finally found good, even delicious, coffee....
yum. To the coffee and the cute husband.
We found Mills Mountain Coffee shop in the heart of downtown. Apparently it's the college hotspot, and I can see why. It was huge, providing plenty of seating space, and full of unique decor. Most importantly, the employees were so very kind and happy--which I feel like anyone drinking or serving coffee should be. The atmosphere made you want to sit and stay all afternoon...which is exactly what we did.
Scofield read while I did homework. Three days into classes and the semester has definitely begun.

After our coffee outing we headed over to a Roanoke picnic. I was amazed at their vegetarian options. They served quinoa barbeque to us non-meat eaters. They truly are a classy and accommodating school.
On the way in, we spotted the largest goodwill warehouse that I have yet to see! With some more downtime after the picnic (we weren't complaining!) we headed over to my dreamland. A coffee shop afternoon and thrifting all in one day!? Now that is a good day.
Finally, we finished the day off with a birthday celebration for Dad #2. Dessert and conversation brought our day to an end perfectly.
Janie, you are in good hands.
We love you!!
