fall date ideas || apple picking with girlfriends

a few of my closest girlsfriends and i recently headed up to sky top orchard for a little apple picking with katherine herndon photography. it's one of my favorite things to do in fall, and lucky for us, the orchard is nearby, only about 45 minutes away. we got really lucky, because the weather called for rain, but we decided to take our chances anyway. when we got there we had just missed the torrential down pour and the sun was out and shining for us. yeah! we had so much fun running around, picking apples, and taking pictures. it seems sky top is getting more and more popular every year, so we really had to search to find apples this year. i heard that with the rate they are growing, they will probably have to expand soon. yay! more apples for us, right!?

katherine is a total whiz with her camera, not to mention one of the kindest, trendiest humans i know. i could not have enjoyed this collaboration more, and am so excited to share some pictures with you below...
such a fun, perfect day in the apple orchard. before we left we made sure to grab some freshly baked apple cider donuts, along with frozen apple cider. couldn't have asked for a better afternoon with muh ladies.

thank you katherine for the pictures!

fall for greenville

one of my favorite parts of living in greenville are all of the fun, local festivals. one of the best ones, in my opinion, is fall for greenville. a bunch of restaurants and local vendors come out, and you can get samples of different food items at each station. there's even concerts going on, cooking demonstrations, and little fair rides for kids. scofield and i didn't have a whole lot of time this year - we just made it out for about an hour sunday afternoon. but maybe that's a good thing, because otherwise i would have tried to taste everything. it all looked so good.
^ this group was amazing. loved listening to them.
^ papi's tacos ... always hits the spot.
^ the homemade potato chips with bleu cheese sauce from soby's was amazing
^ we are both obsessed with crab cakes. we get them anytime we have the chance, so obviously we couldn't pass up ;)
 ^ strawberry lemonade
 ^  the little kids corner

as always, thanks for a fun afternoon greenville!

oreo nutella cookies

okay, let's be honest ... these cookies have no nutritional value. zero. zilch. i can't even make the claim for "it's a whole grain ;)" from whole wheat flour, because it's pretty much just nutella, eggs, and oreos in these cookies. but how about eggs ... protein, right? even if i can't claim there's nutrition for your body, i can claim that these cookies have nutrition for your soul ... and marriage. make these and your husband will love you forever.

i've never been big on oreos, but lately they have been hitting the spot. it all started with trader joe's cookies and cream ice cream. jeesh, they stuff is so good, it's wrong. so, i thought, if oreos are this good in ice cream, they have to be amazing in cookies. a cookie within a cookie ... what's not to love! right? right??

oreo nutella cookies

ingredients:
  • 1 cup nutella
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup oreos, crushed
preheat the oven to 350 F. combine the first four ingredients in a bowl [nutella, egg, vanilla extraxt, and brown sugar] with hand mixer on low speed. when fully blended, add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. using the hand mixer, blend together. next, fold in the chocolate chips and crushed oreos. prepare a baking sheet by covering it with parchment paper. using a cookie scoop, scoop the dough onto the baking sheet. bake at 350 F for 10 minutes. remove, let cool, and enjoy!

a fall tablescape

i recently had the pleasure of working on this fun little project with jessi nichols photograpy. i have loved watching her business boom and her work evolve over the past couple of years. so, when she agreed to collaborate with me and shoot this fall tablescape i put together, i was thrilled! not only did i get to enjoy putting something pretty together, but i had so much fun working with and hanging out with jessi!

once thing i love about fall here in the south is enjoying meals outdoors. during this time of year, the weather is perfect and there is almost no excuse good enough to keep you indoors. so, in honor of the fall season, i put together a little outdoor fall table.

as much as i love fall, orangey and red hues have never been my favorite. i love bright pops of color and gold accents, so i knew i wanted to include these elements while still fitting within a fall theme. to do this, i used pine cones for place settings but painted them gold. i also picked brighter flowers but stayed with the season by adding feather accents. i have also been dying to use my vintage glassware, so i was happy they fit with the table nicely :). are you hosting thanksgiving, or do you have any plans for hosting a fall dinner? if so, i'd love to hear all about it!

house to home: kitchen inspiration

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

i can't believe how far our kitchen has come. as this is our first house, this is the first renovation we have ever done. it was way more work than we ever imagined, but totally worth it. but with that said, i don't exactly want to re-live it .... ever again ;). while the heavy grunt work has been done, we still have little details to fill in to give it that finished look. we love white with pops of color, as you can see above. here's a little look at our progress and to-do list below. can't wait to share the finished product!

our to-do list for the kitchen:
  • scrape popcorn ceilings
  • paint walls white
  • white subway tile
  • build an island with butcher block counter top
  • make a doorway to the sunroom
  • knock down to the wall between kitchen and den
  • move plumbing into the island
  • paint cabinets
  • new hardware
  • new white countertops
  • remove cabinets and add floating shelves
  • install a microwave above stove
  • stools for island
  • light fixtures over island
  • decor details

lately

i was so excited to get this little package in the mail from jessi of jessi nichols photography. we worked on a fun little project a few weeks ago, and i can't wait to share it here this week!
^ dinner dates with this guy ... the best!
^ we went to 'first friday' in west greenville with our good friends turner and courtney recently. so many lovely local artists. i can never get enough.
^ playing with turner's new iphone 6. that camera is amazing.
^ scofield's dad spent a few days on the coast crabbing, and stopped by our house to surprise us with fresh crab and shrimp from his trip! we sure didn't hate it ;) it was a lot of work to eat, but so worth it! there's nothing like fresh fish.
^ workin' hard ... i let him do all the dirty work this time. breaking apart sea creatures is not really my thing...
