Remember when....
We were sophomores in high school and ran in the Reindeer Run at the YMCA. We were then just close aquaintances, but you ran with me the whole time. I was freezing so you traded gloves with me. You told me yours would keep my hands warmer. Then you took my ear muffs and gave me your hat so that my whole head could be covered. Even then, at the young age of 15, you took care of me...
We were bus partners on our YL trip out to Colorado. Between bus rides, we stayed at various hotels. One morning we decided to go on a run. It was lovely, until you accidentally ran into me, knocking me to the ground. I rose with a bright red, scraped-up, knee. But... you made up for it on the bus when you gently cleaned and bandaged my wound. What's more, you let me wear your gym shorts so I wouldn't have any friction from my jeans.
While hiking in Colorado, you proposed to me for the first time. Who needs a diamond when you've got--a flower! I wore it for a few minutes before taking it off. You then gave one to another girl... heartbreaker...
One evening we took your boat out to watch the sunset, only to realize we didn't know how to get back to the dock after the sun had already gone down. Not only that, but our little Boston Whaler didn't have any night lights. Whoops. But, you were a great captain and we soon found our way home, safe and sound.
Once upon a mid-winter's eve, you took me out to a fancy dinner date in Charlotte, NC. But we took a wrong turn into a parking garage and had to pay a whopping $6 to get out. Yikes. All you had was a 20 dollar bill. Thus, the money machine gave you $14 in change... all in gold coins... We saved one as a souvenir..
Remember when... You were playing guitar for me in the treehouse. I leaned over to kiss you and, in your distracted state, you dropped the guitar on my toe! I almost passed out and you had to carry me down the treehouse, through the backyard, and back into your house. My toe was black the rest of the summer...
Remember when... We spent the summer in Brazil together and drank the best smoothies. It was that very summer, on that specific trip, that I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life with you.
You proposed to me! (For real this time). I was so excited... I could have burst with joy.
I think our friends were a little excited too...
Looking forward to many more memories to come,
Lauren
